August Bank Holiday Tips for Twickenham, Teddington and Beyond

August 19, 2025

The August Bank Holiday weekend is upon us! That last glorious gasp of summer before we tumble headfirst into our autumn routines. It’s a weekend where work can wait, the diary can be filled, and barbecues will be well alight (even if it pours with rain – although the forecast looks good for a change!). But as it’s a long weekend, and if you are staying in the area, it’s nice to know what local events are taking place.

If you’d like to know what’s happening in and around Twickenham and Teddington this August Bank Holiday Weekend 2025, you’re in the right place. From family-friendly festivals to live music and outdoor markets, there’s something to tempt everyone off the sofa.

Whether you’re a long-time local or you’re just passing through, the Bank Holiday is a brilliant excuse to make the most of what our area has to offer.

Here are a few highlights we’ve picked out that might be worth pencilling in before the weekend slips away…

Thursday 21 August 2025: Strawberry Hill House – Summer Candlelit Late

Yes, I realise this one is Thursday – but they say Thursday is the new Friday, don’t they? And besides, it feels like the ideal way to roll into the Bank Holiday weekend.

So – come on down to Strawberry Hill House on Thursday evening, to step inside Horace Walpole’s dazzling Gothic masterpiece and soak up an evening of history, architecture, and summer indulgence. Guests are free to explore Strawberry Hill House at their own pace (until 8:30pm – grounds then shut 9:00pm), wandering through the atmospheric corridors and chambers that inspired Walpole to pen The Castle of Otranto, widely regarded as the first Gothic novel.

Afterwards, head out into the gardens for a refreshing glass of Pimm’s from the dedicated Pimm’s bar (your first glass is complimentary). Pack a picnic, gather some friends, and enjoy the spectacular surroundings as dusk settles.

📅 Date: Thursday 21st August
⏰ 6:00pm-9:00pm (entry from 6:00pm–7:30pm)
💷 Tickets: £20 standard / £15 students
🏰 House closes 8:30pm, gardens 9:00pm

Friday 22 August 2025: Time for Wine! 2-for-1 at Shambles, Teddington

Looking for a nice and chilled way to start your Friday evening this Bank Holiday weekend? Shambles in Teddington has got us covered.

This isn’t limited to this Friday only, so check it out for other days and weeks – but for something classy and a little bit memorable to build into a full-on weekend, this one  cries out to me. Head on down to Shambles Restaurant and Wine Bar in Teddington, where you can enjoy two glasses of excellent wine for the price of one.

With a choice of 40 wines by the glass, there’s something to suit every taste. Walk in, book a table, or simply perch at the bar and make the most of the offer.

It’s a perfect way to wind down if you’ve worked right the way through to the weekend, or a fun way to kick off a Friday night out – perhaps before heading on to our next suggestion (see next event, below).

📅 When: Tuesday to Saturday
⏰ Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm
📍 Venue: Shambles Restaurant and Wine Bar, Teddington

Friday 22 August 2025 – A Foreigners Journey come to Hampton

Want to move the evening on after a couple of glasses of wine at Shambles? Ready to crank it up a notch this Bank Holiday? Then how about A Foreigners Journey? These guys are the UK’s top tribute to not one but two of rock’s biggest heavyweights, Foreigner and Journey. And they are top notch!

It means heading down the road to Hampton – but it’s only Friday night once a week, after all. We’re talking fist-pumping anthems like Don’t Stop Believin’, Cold As Ice, and Juke Box Hero, right through to the big sing-along ballads like I Want to Know What Love Is. Frontman Adam J Oades has the pipes, the swagger, and the stage presence to make you forget you’re not watching the originals.

In short: if you fancy a night of guitar solos, soaring vocals and the chance to lose your voice belting along to classic rock – this is the one!

📅 Date: Friday 22nd August

⏰ Time: doors from 7:00pm

📍 Venue: The Hampton Hub, Hampton
💷 Tickets: £20 in advance / £23 on the door

Saturday 23 August 2025: Rise and Shine and Parkrun! (or jog… or even walk)

I’ve never met anyone do a bit of exercise and think to themselves: I really regret that.

Regular exercisers don’t need much encouragement, but for those who struggle for motivation, I can promise you there is no better place to start than at Parkrun – and here in Twickenham we’ve got several within just a few minutes to choose from.

Now for those who know, they need no further encouragement, but for those who have never tried it or who might feel intimidated by the idea, trust me. There is no judgement here – run, jog or even walk it at your own pace – take in the atmosphere (always happy!), breathe in the fresh air and take in your green and leafy surroundings over 5km courses, at any of the following places listed below. It is free of charge, but best to register on the Parkrun App (this is also free!) to get yourself a barcode – it really makes the experience more fun.

A fantastic way to spend your morning and get you pumped and ready for the day ahead… even if it is just to build up an appetite for a breakfast sandwich somewhere – in which case, I can recommend a great local Farmer’s Market nearby for just that purpose!

📅 Date: Saturday 23rd August (and indeed every Saturday)

⏰ Time: 9:00am

📍 Venue: Crane Park (Twickenham), Old Deer Park (Richmond), Richmond Park (Richmond), Gunnersbury Park (South Ealing) and more…
💷 Tickets: Free of Charge

Saturday 23 August 2025: Twickenham Farmers’ Market

Looking for a relaxed way to spend your Saturday morning before the Bank Holiday kicks into full swing? Head over to Twickenham Farmers’ Market, one of the area’s longest-established and most loved community markets. It’s as much about catching up with friends and neighbours as it is about the shopping, and many of the stallholders feel like old friends too.

If this weekend is all about a barbecue in your back garden, we’ve got the very best in Great British produce right here: organic eggs and meat from Lee House Farm on the borders of Surrey and West Sussex, rare-breed cuts from March House Farm in Leicestershire, beautiful fruit and veg from Manor Farm just up the road in Ruislip, fresh fish and seafood caught in the mouth of the Thames Estuary by Essex-based fisherman Gary Haggis and son Mark, plus artisan treats ranging from pies and cakes to bread, honey, pasta, and coffee. There’s even raw goat’s milk and cheeses from Wildcroft Dairy for something a little different.

Seasonal highlights keep the market fresh all year round, so this weekend, you can expect a proper summer spread.

📅 When: Saturday 23rd August (and every Saturday)
⏰ Time: 9:00am – 1:00pm
📍 Venue: Holly Road Car Park, Twickenham

Saturday 23 August 2025: Janmashtami Celebration at Namaste Village, Twickenham

Head to Namaste Village in Twickenham on Saturday lunchtime to celebrate Janmashtami, the joyous Hindu festival that commemorates and honours the birth of Krishna. Enjoy an afternoon of storytelling, culture, and authentic cuisine in the heart of our neighbourhood.

Renowned orator Dr. Priya Virmani will guide the celebration through soulful storytelling, sharing Krishna’s timeless teachings and the relevance they have to modern life, offering wisdom on moving from the “rat race to grace.”

Afterwards, tuck in to a specially curated Janmashtami buffet, including two traditional starters, two rich curries, sides, fragrant rice, naan, and crispy papadums. It promises to be a feast for the senses!

This event is for everyone, and welcomes families, individuals, and children alike to come together in a spirit of culture, community, and celebration.

📅 Date: Saturday 23rd August 2025
⏰ Time: 12:30pm – 2:30pm
📍 Venue: Namaste Village, 27 York Street, Twickenham, TW1 3JZ
💷 Tickets: £25 per person

Saturday 23 August 2025 – Kew Horticultural Society Summer Show

The Kew Horticultural Society Summer Show has been running for 80 years and is one of the few remaining traditional produce fairs in London. It is a real highlight of the local calendar. It takes place just down the road on Kew Green, and offers a lively mix of stalls selling plants, art, clothes, jewellery, soaps, perfumes and more, along with bric-a-brac bargains, a book stall, and even a tombola for a bit of fun.

Entertainment runs throughout the afternoon with live jazz from a local band, and children will love the traditional Punch & Judy shows. It’s a wonderful celebration of community spirit, horticultural heritage, and summer in full bloom.

📅 Date: Saturday 23rd August 2025
⏰ Time: 12:00pm – 5:00pm
📍 Venue: Kew Green, Kew, TW9 3AB
💷 Admission: Free

Sunday 24 August 2025 – Open-Air Concert at Strawberry Hill House

How about a little Gatsby glamour to round off your Bank Holiday Sunday? You can (hopefully) have a lie-in tomorrow, after all.

On Sunday evening, it’s back to the gardens of Strawberry Hill House which are set to come alive with the smooth sounds of the roaring 20s and thirsty 30s. Think vintage swing, summer twilight, perhaps a glass of fizz in hand – it’s got “perfect Sunday vibes” written all over it.

Pack up a picnic and claim your spot on the lawn, or save yourself the prep and order a hamper from Roots & Berries’ Garden Café (very civilised). Prosecco, snacks and ice cream will also be flowing, so no need to go hungry – or thirsty!

📅 Date: Sunday 24th August 2025
⏰ Time: Gates open 6:00pm; performance 7:00pm – 9:00pm (with an interval)
📍 Venue: Strawberry Hill House & Garden, 268 Waldegrave Road, Twickenham TW1 4ST
💷 Tickets: Advance booking essential

Monday 25 August 2025 – One World Animals, Twickenham

Fancy something a little different this Bank Holiday? Perhaps especially if you’ve got kids (or who knows, perhaps even without?!), why not head to the One World Animals event for a hands-on encounter with some extraordinary rescued creatures…

From snakes and lizards to insects, arachnids and more, it is a 75-minute session that is all about fun, learning, and getting up close with some, shall we say, ‘misunderstood’ members of the animal kingdom… no glass tanks or cages in sight!

It’s suitable for all ages from 3 to 103 (104 year olds also welcome), so the whole family can get stuck in. Expect equal parts fascination, excitement… but for some, perhaps bring a little bravery too!

📅 Date: Monday 25th August

⏰ Time: 75-minute sessions from 10:30am-3:15pm
📍 Venue: All Hallows Church hall, Erncroft Way, Twickenham

💷 Tickets: £6 – £15 (pre-booking essential)

Monday 25 August 2025 – Hampton Court Palace Food Festival

Fancy eating like a king or queen this Bank Holiday weekend? Then Hampton Court Palace Food Festival is the place to be . Where better to graze than in Henry VIII’s own back garden?

Picture it: over 150 brilliant producers, sizzling street food as far as the eye can see, pop-up bars pouring craft beer, cocktails, and wine, gooey brownies and piping-hot churros... If you can’t find a nibble you fancy here, you might need your taste buds checked.

And because it’s Hampton Court, your ticket doesn’t just get you in for this foodies’ favourite – it also gets you through the doors of the palace itself. Walk the same halls as Henry VIII and Cardinal Wolsey, then step back out to toast the long weekend with something cold and possibly fizzy…

This one isn’t just for Bank Holiday Monday – it runs from Saturday to Monday… but I just thought, what better way to end a lovely long weekend?

📅 Dates: Saturday 23rd – Monday 25th August 2025
📍 Venue: Hampton Court Palace Gardens
💷 Tickets: Pre-book online (members go free)

However you decide to spend this long weekend in Twickenham, Teddington and the surrounding area, from myself and from Bartlett and Partners, we hope you have a wonderful Bank Holiday.
